Empty half-pint jars + modified lids + rings for mushroom liquid culture/spawn/substrate incubation. Each lid has a self-healing injection port and Tyvek-covered gas exchange port. The jars + modified lids + rings are 100% reusable. We pick wide-mouth or regular-mouth based on jar availability at time of your order. We guarantee all jars in a set will be the same - no mix/match to worry about. Internal surface area is the same and growth potential is identical.
ABOUT:
Each lid has 1 self-healing injection port for inoculation and 1 Tyvek-covered port to encourage gas exchange. They can be pressure-sterilized and are suitable for mushroom spawn/substrate (e.g., BRF, popcorn, WBS, oat, manure) or liquid culture jars.
We occasionally get asked why we flip the lids upside down from their typical position when used for canning fruit and vegetables. We do this for three reasons: 1) the lids are MUCH easier to remove after having gone through a pressure- or steam-sterilization cycle; 2) there is no impact in the lid's ability to keep out contaminants when flipped over; and 3) when dust or other contaminants settle on the lid during the myc's incubation period, it has a tendency to collect in the lid's upturned lip on its outside edges rather than at the raised portion of the lid where the injection and gas exchange ports are located.
The only lids we sell that we setup in "standard canning" position are those for our filled liquid culture jars where we believe it is more important to have a leak-proof transit than an easy-to-remove lid.
