Mercruiser OEM Gen II Gimbal Ring. So it looks worse in the picts then it is . Galvanic corrosion destroyed the gimble housing the gimble ring did much better .Both shaft ends were stuck and a good thing because no play in the shaft -the number one reason they get replaced .Not for every one but a great deal for the price .Remember the end play is set on the bottom upper ear so the top won't matter and yes you can see more of the shaft coming thru the gimble ring about 1/8 inch  more or less  - new they are about 1and 3/16  maybe a 1/4 so there is more the 1 inch left
